Looking back & moving forward

The above photo (taken with a Sigma DP1) is one I took in October, which is the last time I thought about blogging. I could say that I’ve been busy, which I have been, but I have no good excuse. To be honest, I get paralyzed with anxiety about blogging. I’ve let so many ideas and photos go unposted that I feel like I can’t catch up. I’ve decided that I need to let that go and start over from scratch. I’m not sure what direction I’ll take just yet, but I’m going to start by simply posting photos on a more regular basis.
In other news, I recently bought a Mamiya 645AFD. It’s technically used, but was basically new in the box. Even the strap was still wrapped up and sealed. I only have a film back at the moment, but may rent a digital back for a weekend to play with.
Lee Friedlander Exhibit at MIA

If you’re a fan of photography and in Minneapolis, you only have a bit more than two weeks to catch the Lee Friedlander exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This is an amazing collection that’s not to be missed. The size of the exhibit is very overwhelming. With almost 500 images, I was zoning out after less than half of them and plan to go back early next week to get through the rest.
MNCP closing its doors

I got this email earlier today and am saddened by the reality of this loss to the local photography community. With so many photographers in Minneapolis, I never thought I’d see this day. I guess it shows why we shouldn’t take for granted what is important to us.
Dear Friends,
It is with regret that we must inform you that Minnesota Center for Photography is discontinuing business operations at the close of business on July 31st. Over the past six months we have unsuccessfully attempted to adjust our budget and, with your help, raise additional funds to pay down debt and fund continuing operations.
The Board made this decision with reluctance and after attempting whatever we could do to permit the survival of MCP.
On behalf of the many stakeholders in Minnesota Center For Photography, we thank you for your continuing interest and support of MCP’s mission over the years.
